Health insurance premiums for small companies have been rising by triple digits for a few years and they do not have the power or backing to negotiate like some of the larger companies. Despite the economic recession this year’s increase in insurance quotes and premiums are higher than usual. Some businesses are resorting to drastic measures to safeguard employee’s group health insurance or are forced to drop coverage all together. Some employers are cancelling group insurance and purchasing cheaper individual policies for themselves and sometimes their employees. Some are switching to group insurance plans that shirt more medical expenses to their employees. How will this affect the small business owners and the employees who can barely afford the premiums they have now?
